Opening Ceremony

This past Sunday, February 1st was LTI's second annual Opening Ceremony. We welcomed ten students from around the Boston and Cambridge area and their family and friends. Activities included an introduction to the LTI Spring 2009 curriculum with a Leadership Scavenger Hunt for the students, and a "Splat" name-learning game and "Paper Tower" activity for the family and friends at the MIT Stata Center.

Spring 2009 Session

The final version of the Spring 2009 Curriculum has been released to executive members and mentors. The first session is scheduled for Sunday, February 8th. The sessions will run every Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in MIT room 4-149 until May 10th. There are no sessions on February 15, March 22, and April 19. This year's program will focus on communication, leadership styles, and the final service project.

LTI Abroad: Mexico

Our mentors arrived back from Casa Telmex at Tuxtla just in time for the Opening Ceremony. Apart from implementing the LTI curriculum for local students, they defined their experience as an exploration of culture, language, and teaching styles.

The students and facilitators at Casa Telmex thoroughly enjoyed the experience and believed the program taught them how to communicate, work in teams, and most importantly, that young adults can be great leaders. We are working on making LTI a permanent part of the curriculum and program at Casa Telmex.

Executive Board Recruitment

LTI will be recruiting for several positions during the spring semester to fill in vacancies and establish an expansion committee. We are looking for a Public Relations Chair, Logistics Chair, Planning Committee Director, Curriculum Chair, Sponsorship Chair, and Expansion Committee. An informational session will be held at the beginning of February. We are currently accepting applications.
